Dim Sum Noodle Doodle

I'm in London right now and I'm looking to seek out some super yummy Dim Sum this weekend. In the meantime I obviously can't stop thinking about it, so decided to create an illustration to celebrate my love for those glorious little dump dumps!

Forever Sleeping Awkward

The story goes like this; I forever find myself cracking up in bed at the weird way I've twisted my body to find that comfy magic spot where I can fall asleep. I imagine what it would look like if you took that exact position and stood it upright, that's when I see this weird over the top, almost animated version of myself.  So of course, I needed to get this down on paper and laugh even more in the process.

Character design is an area of illustration that I absolutely adore, but it doesn't come up in my client projects too often. I love it so much because I feel like I can pour endless amounts of my goofy personality into it without it ever being 'too much'. This is one of the reasons why I set up my sketchbook / blog, I wanted a space to create and document personal work that I'm super passionate about. Expect to see more sleeping positions and other fun nonsense from me!

Anyway, the sleeping thing, you should definitely take note of the weird ways you curl up for the night. I promise you'll get a good few giggles out of it.

I Likes 'Em!

Here's a fun piece I made for my Twitter page. I wanted something super cool to hit people in the eyeballs with, should they wish to look at my page. I've always struggled with personal branding, but decided to let loose on this piece and see where I could go with it and how much personality I could fit on those pixels.

I started thinking about what I like. At first silly little things like my favourite number, fruit and flower. Then on to my personality and values. If you know me, you'll know that I'm a very happy, loving and giggly human, this is where the heart character comes in to play, she's bursting with joy! I'm also quite the feminist and will not hesitate on shutting something inappropriate down, hence the no and the stabby dagger! Beware! Overall I wanted to give off the vibe of someone who is very loving, happy and optimistic, but also very strong, powerful and fierce.

I pulled some inspiration from an old drawing of mine, 'she's a goddess' and some more from a couple of my favourite images on Pinterest. You'll also notice that the small collage on the right is where my colour palette inspiration came from. You may also recognise the 6 numeral and the big leaf!

Once I sketched out the basic layout of elements and gathered my colour inspiration, I jumped right into photoshop. All of the elements are redrawn with my Wacom tablet and Kyle T Webster's amazing brushes. I used a brush with a charcoal effect to get that nice gritty texture on the edges, which I loooovve! Thanks Kyle! ;D

I'm super happy with how this piece turned out. Thanks for checking it out!
